A Brave Family In The Face Of Grief
Hi All,
I wanted to let you know about a little event that impacts a lot of people here in Edmonton, the Jasper Place Child and Family Resource Centre (CFRC).
I was contacted by a lady names Courtney who had a baby in November 2011 who although being a fighter wasn't able to make it home. Despite their great loss her family wanted to give back their time and create a baby shower for moms whom would not have their own baby shower, or celebration at the birth of their child.
Sprogs donated a very small token (when considering the families great gesture) towards the gift baskets for the expectant moms, and I received this lovely letter back:

Dear Nicola,
Thank you for your contribution to the very special baby shower that was held on November 15, 2012, at the Jasper Place Child and Family Resource Centre (CFRC) in Edmonton, Alberta. We are grateful for your support.
The shower was a great success and a truly memorable event. Approximately 90 people attended the shower, including new mothers/mothers-to-be, their families, as well as Jasper Place CFRC staff and event volunteers. The centre’s gymnasium was transformed into a beautiful space with fun, colourful decorations in an orange, yellow, pink and plum colour scheme. Paisley prints were subtly included in the centerpiece and gift bag designs.
After a brief welcome, guests were treated to a delicious pasta meal with salad, bread and yummy lemon cake for dessert. The festivities continued with the playing of a traditional baby shower party game. At this point in the program, the guests of honour were called up individually and presented with the baby gift baskets and personal gift bags. The door prizes were also awarded at this time.
As you can imagine, we felt a great deal of emotion on that day, as it would have been our baby Paisley’s first birthday. While some tears were shed, most of them were tears of happiness, as it was truly an incredible feeling to be part of the magic of that evening. Seeing the women’s eyes light up as we handed them their many, many gifts was very powerful. We were so touched by the genuine expressions of gratitude that came in the forms of hugs and meaningful conversations. Based on the feedback received, the shower had a positive impact on all of the women, who not only received baby gifts that they needed, but also much encouragement.
We were very happy to have celebrated Paisley’s birthday in this way, paying forward some of the kindness that has been bestowed upon our family. Thank you once again for helping to make the shower possible with your generous gift donation.
With very best wishes to you and yours,
Paisley’s Family
(Courtney, Rory and Layla)
Thank you to Paislys family for creating such a wonderful & selfless act despite the pain and greif you felt that day!
